Do you know the difference between Forklift Truck Accredited or Certificate of Competence Training?
Which course should I attend? Accredited training or Certificate of Competence training? The answer is it depends on your training needs!!
Both serve to ensure competent and safe operators, however let’s look at the pros and cons of either!
Accredited:
Pros
- Nationally recognised certification. Some companies stipulate the need for accredited training within their company policies
- Legal Compliance meets all H&S requirements
- Set training standards ensures quality of instruction and assessment
Cons
- Duration of the course may be longer
- More expensive
- Require renewal of the registrations after a period of 3 years
- Limited flexibility as have strict guidelines to follow
Certificate of Competence:
Pros
- Meets all H&S requirements
- Flexible learning suitable for restricted internal training providing specific skills required for their workplace only
- No expiry date on certificate – advice is to carry out refresher training every 3-5 years
- Can be a shorter course especially a novice course
- Generally lower cost
Cons
- Not nationally recognised by external employers or regulatory bodies
- May require additional training if moving to a new job or industry, or if the workplace operations change
In summary, both options comply with meeting the minimum requirements. Its doing nothing, you should be concerned about!
