Retention of Training Records – ADR

Friday July 2024

The Department for Transport announced from 13th November 2023, employers must keep records of all training for a minimum period of 6 years!  These records can be requested by the employee or the Department for Transport, as stated in the ADR 2023 Regulations, Chapter 1.3.3.

The retention of training records is not specific to dangerous goods training and should be retained for up to 2 years after the employee has left the place of employment, in the event an issue arises.  Additionally, these records ‘shall be verified upon commencing a new employment’, as stated in the ADR Regulations.

Whilst attending a meeting at the DfT, this topic arose, specifically regarding the type of information to retain!  In response to this, it was suggested by a few parties that this is a matter for each organisation, yet others felt a more prescriptive format was established, such as a register, certificates, training topics covered, feedback etc.

If your training records are out of date, and training has been completed with us then we will be able to assist in providing details as required (providing your request is GDPR compliant)!  Over our previous 25 years of trading, we have assisted with helping our customers with copies of their training records and more than happy to help any of our customers in the future.
