Shortfall in Driver CPC Hours Recorded?

In a previous blog, it suggests, following a number-crunching exercise using the data available from GOV.UK  driver-cpc-qualification-and-training-data.ods (live.com), that there is a shortfall in the number of hours uploaded, which feels accurate, as the demand for training in the current 5-year cycle has fallen significantly.

As a business, in any sector, it is always beneficial to understand why there is a significant change.

There have been several pressures over the last 5 years the transport sector has had to contend with.  Whilst not alone in this, COVID being the stand-out one, which resulted in many subsequent problems, including the media hitting headline of the industry facing a driver shortage, resulting in the hike in wage bills as many employers offered incentives to avoid losing drivers, as well as attracting new ones.  Additionally, it was concerning to read the many transport companies being forced into administration, for various reasons resulting from increased costs caused by rising wage costs along with the rising inflation!

So, is it that there is a shortfall in the number of Driver CPC hours recorded in the current 5-year cycle, or has the size of the market shrunk?

The reality is that we don’t really know yet, as only time will tell!
